Preserving precious memories can be an incredibly rewarding pastime. As part of my 4 part feature on Scrapping, I will be focusing on the Stampin' Style Elements of scrapbooking: Color, layout, journaling and accents. Let's Start with COLOR! Many people feel overwhelmed when they sit down to pick a color scheme for a page. If you have ever looked at a sample and said to yourself, "that's a wonderful page - I could never pick colos that go so well together", then you're not alone! FIRST: PICK A HIGHLIGHT Start by selecting a color from your photo. It doesn't need to be the main color of the picture. SECOND: PICK AN EMOTION Decide whether or not you want an energetic color scheme or a calming one. Bright colors tend to be high energy THIRD: PICK MONOCHROMATIC OR COORDINATING COLORS Once you've selected your main colors and your emotion you are ready to pick the rest of your palette by choosing which kind of color scheme you are interested in: monochromatic or coordinating colors. If you want coordinating colors and you don't trust yourself to pick colors that work well together, the COLOR COACH is the perfect solution. Monochromatic colors are two colors that share the same hue but have different tones. (ie. Rose Red and Regal Rose). You can find color combinations on the COLOR COACH! It's usually best to stick to 2 or 3 coordinating colors and a neutral. Mixing too many colors can create a busy, disorganized look. Stampin' Up! has perfectly matched Simply Stampin' Kits available that have coordinating textured cardstock, doublesided patterned cardstock and adhesive cardstock die cuts all perfectly matched with a theme! Check out pages 174-177 in the FALL-Winter Collection 2007 Idea Book and Catalog! I usually stick with these and get straight to Scrappin'! Tune in next time for the 2nd part: LAYOUTS! from stampin' success December 2005
