One big thing these days is using old antique METAL TILES. Here's a short tutorial on how make FAUX METAL TILES.

Image

supplies: Light colored cardstock (Whisper White), any Fleur De Lis or "old style" floral stamp set (Carte Postale), Versamark pad (not shown), black Heat Embossing powder, heat tool (not shown), 1 1/3" square punch, acrylic paint (I used a green about Wild Wasabi in color), Pearl Ex (or metalic ink pad with dauber), wide paint brush (not shown), old rag or Paper towel.

first you stamp several images with the Versa Mark Pad. and Heat emboss using black EP.

apply acrylic paint to cover the images.

let dry for a short time.  Dry to touch but not fully set.

use a rag to wipe (scrape) away at the paint on the Embossing. Don't be afraid to really push to remove the paint.

punch out your squares (use 1 3/8" square punch)

using dauber... apply a tiny amount to pearl ex to the tiles using up and down strokes. NOT TOO MUCH. You can also use metallic ink pad and dauber if you don't have pearl ex. and maybe even try regular darker in (tiny amount) if you don't have any metalic inks or pearl ex.Remember the key is to use SMALL AMOUNTS. You can always add more.
