Trinket Box - origami using DSP PDF Print E-mail
Written by Allison

This box is featured in the Spring/Summer 2008 catalog on pg 147 and in the Occasions 2008 Mini catalog on pg 7.

TRINKET BOX using SU DSP (designer series paper - Spring Silhouettes). You can make 2 of these boxes with 1 piece of 12x12 cardstock or DSP.

one note: this project works better if your creases are crisp and perfect and your cut of paper is perfect in size.

Image

supplies needed:

6"x6" (box top) and 5.5"x5.5" (box bottom) pieces of DSP . (you can use the same piece of DSP - since it is double sided and will coordinate PERFECTLY with one another), bone folder, adhesive (optional), embellishments.

Image

start with the 6"x6" piece. Fold it in half (exactly at 3"). Crease well with bone folder.

note: the side you have showing here will be the final side showing on your box top.

now fold that piece in half again.

Image

open up the DSP and fold in each corner to line up perfectly with the cross lines. (as shown).

Image

do this for all four corners.

Image

fold up one side to the middle line as shown. crease well.

Image

do this for all four sides. Here's a view of the folded piece.

open it all up again.

Image

fold up one corner as shown making a wall of the box.

Image

do the same to the opposite side.

Image

while holding the walls up, pinch in the piece shown and crease.

Image

lift up the edge and tuck it into the walls.

Image

push it in snug. You can use a little adhesive to secure the tab there.

Image

do the same to the other half of the box top.

Image

finished box top. again.. you can use adhesive to secure the tab in. (you don't reallynee dto adhere it if the box fit perfectly. Then it will stay on it's own.)

 Image

Repeat all steps using the smaller DSP for the box bottom. (same directions)

Image

here's a view of the two pieces fitting together.

Image

add embellishments. Viola! Finished trinket box!

here's a size comparison for you. This box is small and is perfect for jewelry and other small items.

You can make this box bigger (any size you want.). Just make sure you make the box top 1/2" bigger than the bottom.

Hi Allison,

Thanks for making this box. I always wanted to know how to make one of these. I like the paper you choose.
